She’So Divine Turns a Candle, a Calling and a Comeback Into a Faith-Filled Self-Care Revolution

Brittany Denise didn’t anticipate starting a business almost five years ago.

The entrepreneur was on a devoted mission to find a new hobby to pick up and keep her hands busy when the world slowed down during the pandemic. After exploring different avenues, she discovered something that piqued her interest, and unbeknownst to her, she would embark on a new journey that would change the trajectory of her life.

She began learning how to make a variety of candles and body products. Wanting to share her new journey with her social media audience, she shared her products online without much thought, and eager customers started inquiring about the products and purchasing them.

Her first vendor event at the Soul Swap Meet in San Diego sold out within hours. Every candle and every jar was gone by the end of the day. That was the moment She’So Divine stopped being a hobby and became something bigger.

“I started She’So Divine as a hobby during the pandemic,” Denise said. “I just quit my job due to all the uncertainty at the time and wanted to dive into learning something new. I began making candles and body products, and they quickly started gaining attention on social media. When friends began asking if they could purchase them, I thought, Why not go all in?”

The company name comes from Denise’s Instagram handle, which she felt perfectly represented her personality and brand.

During the early stages of launching the company, she immersed herself in the New Age movement, studying herbs and oils tied to spiritual outcomes. Her candles became popular, and she then expanded into body butters and scrubs, hoping to establish a spiritual beauty brand.

Growth and production came quickly, and within a year, Denise moved back to Los Angeles and placed her products in two local small businesses. Then, in January of 2022, she received shocking news that she was expecting her first child.

Around the same time, the entrepreneur also realized the spiritual path she had been on was taking a darker turn than she anticipated.

“I had gotten so deep into New Age practices, white magic and worshipping deities, that I did not see the danger,” she said. “I genuinely thought I was helping people, but what I later realized is that the devil is a deceiver. I began experiencing intense spiritual attacks. That is when I knew something had to change.”

Denise paused her business to focus on motherhood and disentangling from practices she now considers harmful. After nearly three years of self-discovery, therapy, prayer and community support, she relaunched She’So Divine as a faith-based self-care and candle company.

Now, the brand is designed to help women reconnect with their femininity, find peace and embrace purpose.

The company’s mantra, “Where Beauty Meets Divine Purpose,” goes beyond the tagline for the brand. To Denise, it is the foundation.

Partnering with local businesses for materials, many of which are fair-trade, organic and supporting community-driven initiatives, is what sets her apart from the average business in her industry.

Her creative process begins with her customers, and she openly listens to what they desire.

“I always listen to my customers. That is usually where my product ideas begin. So many have asked me to expand into matching lotions and oils, and that is exactly what I plan to do,” she said.

She trusts her instincts when launching a new product and lets her intuition guide her business.

“I believe we all have a deep knowing, that feeling in your spirit that keeps nudging or guiding you toward something. When I feel that gentle push and a sense of peace about it, that is how I know it is right.” Denise shared.

Her eye for design comes from a lifetime of exposure to beauty and creativity.

“I am a lover of all things beautiful. I have always had a natural talent for mixing fragrances, curating scents and bringing creative ideas and designs to life. I love collaborating with freelancers and other small businesses who understand my vision and help me make it a reality.” Denise said.

Having loved ones who believed in her vision also contributed to her exposure to beauty and creativity.

“I also have to give credit to my mom. She is incredibly creative and always included me in her event planning and idea-generating growing up. I truly believe my eye for design and my passion for creating beautiful things come from her.” Denise elaborated.

Running her own business has not been easy, and it has come with a variety of trials and tribulations.

“Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. There are so many ups and downs, especially financially, when you’re bootstrapping. But what I have learned is that if there is a will, there is a way,” Denise said. “I have become incredibly resourceful and have leaned into my strength for networking and building genuine relationships. I use every connection and resource available to me to keep moving forward. One of the biggest lessons I have learned is to keep your 9-to-5.”

Working 9-to-5 isn’t ideal for many entrepreneurs, including Denise, as they balance their full-time workload and their responsibilities of expanding and maintaining their business.

“In the beginning, I was one of those entrepreneurs who swore I would never go back to corporate, but I went back, and I am happy I did. That stability allows me to keep my business running and growing without so much financial stress.” Denise explained.

The Sweet Velvet candle stands out as Denise’s personal favorite. Its pink vessel and carefully crafted fragrance represent both divinity and femininity. Every product is meant to be a reminder to slow down, breathe and nurture oneself.

Opening a storefront to complement her pop-ups and online sales is on the radar for the company in the near future.

The company will also expand its Pure Skin Collection with lotions made from Macadamia Butter and Kukui Oil for sensitive skin.

Like the expansion and growth of the company, growth is imperative for Denise as an entrepreneur and individual. Maintaining relationships and community is essential to her, so a portion of all purchases supports organizations helping women, mothers and children in need, including housing programs in Los Angeles.

The journey has not been easy, but Denise manages every aspect of her business herself by balancing consistency with the demands of entrepreneurship.

“I am a one-woman show, so I handle everything myself, and at times, it can be overwhelming,” she said.

Success is defined not just by growth or profits but by the community she has built and the lives she has touched. Her goal for the coming year includes expanding her team, increasing revenue and forming new collaborations that further her mission of giving back.

“I feel like I am always celebrating, and you have to,” she said. “Running a business, especially in the early stages, on your own, is not easy. So whether it is treating myself to a nice dinner or taking a little staycation, I make sure to pause and enjoy the journey.”

Denise’s story is in every candle and jar she creates. From her first sold-out vendor table to building a business shaped by faith and purpose, She’So Divine reflects her journey, her values and her care for the people who use her products.
